How to Set Up a Netgear Wi-Fi Adapter
Your Netgear wireless network adapter allows you to bridge a connection between your gaming and media consoles and your wireless network. Many of these adapters are Internet-capable but only if you use a wired Ethernet network. With Netgear's adapter, you can use your devices as if they were on a wired network, despite it being a wireless connection.
-
1.
Disconnect your computer from the network by removing all Ethernet cables from the computer or terminating your wireless connection. To do the latter, scroll to the right side of your screen, click on the "Settings" charm, click "Turn Wireless on or off," then click the "Wireless" button in the resulting menu and toggle the Wireless switch on the right to "Off."
-
2.
Connect the Netgear Wi-Fi adapter to your computer using the supplied Ethernet cable; then, connect the USB cable to the adapter and your PC.
-
3.
Open a Web browser to connect to the setup page. The setup page automatically opens when you launch the browser.
-
4.
Follow the on-screen prompts to connect the adapter to your wireless network, entering information such as the username and password for your network as prompted. You can find the default username and password for your network in your router's manual.
-
5.
Disconnect the adapter, its USB cable and its Ethernet cable from your PC. You may reconnect your computer to the network at this time. Reconnect the Ethernet cable from your router or wall jack to your computer, or scroll to the right side of your screen, click the "Settings" charm, select "Turn Wireless on or off," then click on the "Wireless" button in the menu that appears and toggle the Wireless switch on the right to "On."
-
6.
Connect the adapter to the devices you want to link to the network, such as a gaming console or Blu-ray device, using an Ethernet cable. Plug the included power supply into the Netgear adapter and a power outlet.
