How to Reset a Motorola Droid Razr Maxx
Two types of resets can be performed on the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx. If your Droid Razr Maxx exhibits problems such as freezing or apps failing to run, a soft reset may return your phone to normal functioning status. A hard set may required if the soft reset does not return the device to normal function, if you have forgotten your phone’s password or if you cannot call or receive calls. First, try a soft reset. If the soft reset does not solve the issue, perform the hard reset.
Soft Reset

Press and hold the “Power” button on the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx. The Power Down dialog box displays.

Tap the “Power Off” option. A confirmation dialog box opens.

Tap “OK.” The phone powers down and turns completely off.

Press and hold the “Power” button to restart the phone. Release the “Power” button when you see the Motorola startup screen.
Hard Reset

Tap the “Menu” button, and then tap “Apps” to view all applications installed on the phone.

Tap the “Settings” icon to open the Settings menu.

Tap the “Privacy” option, then scroll to the bottom of the menu.

Tap the “Factory Data Reset” option. The Reset dialog box displays.

Tap the “Reset Phone” option, then tap “Erase Everything.” The phone powers down and all data is deleted from the phone. The phone is returned to factory settings.

- You can also initiate a hard reset by pressing and holding the “Volume” button while pressing the “Power” button. Release the “Power" button when you see a blank screen. The Recovery menu displays. Use the “Volume” key to navigate to the “Factory Reset” option, then press the “Power” button to select the option. A confirmation dialog box displays. Press “Power” once again to select “Yes.” A hard reset is started, and the phone is returned to factory settings.
- The hard reset process may take up to 10 minutes to complete.
Warnings
- A hard reset of the Droid Razr Max returns the phone to its factory default settings. Be sure to back up your personal data, contacts and media before performing the hard reset, as all of these files and settings will be deleted during the reset.
