How to Make a MacBook Invisible to Other MacBooks
Your MacBook can be seen by other MacBooks that are connected to your network as a computer that is sharing files. This feature can be handy if you have several computers connected to the same network and need to transfer files between them. However, if you have unknown computers on your network or are on an open network, you may want your computer to be invisible and unavailable to share files to preserve your privacy and security. To make your MacBook invisible on the network, turn off the Sharing function in the MacBook System Preferences panel.
-
1.
Click on the "System Preferences" icon in the MacBook dock to open the System Preferences window.
-
2.
Click on the icon labeled "Sharing" in the "Internet and Wireless" category.
-
3.
Deselect each of the check boxes in the list on the left side of the Sharing window to turn off all sharing and appear invisible to other MacBooks.
-
4.
Close the System Preferences window.
