How to Install a Logitech Wireless Mouse
When it comes to purchasing a new wireless mouse, the Swiss personal computer goods provider Logitech creates a slew of popular options to choose from. Whether it’s the very affordable M325 or M705, or the ultra-powerful MX Master 2S, there is a Logitech wireless mouse for you.
While using a wireless mouse is as straightforward as any other mouse, the installation might seem confusing on your first time. Here is an easy guide to follow to install your own Logitech wireless mouse.
Getting Started.
Begin by opening your wireless mouse from any external packaging, along with the USB receiver that comes with it. Take that USB receiver and plug it into one of your computer’s open USB slots.
Now, you will need to turn on your mouse using the power switch on the bottom of it. You will need to make sure your mouse has batteries in it, which you can do by sliding open the panel on the bottom of your mouse next to the power button.
If all of the above is powered on and operational, you should now be able to swivel your mouse around to move and click your cursor on screen. If for some reason it isn’t working, there may be another step needed, as some mouse devices have a Connect button you need to press before it will connect, which will also be on the bottom of your wireless mouse. Once this is pressed, the mouse should connect with the USB receiver plugged into the computer.
Pairing a Logitech Wireless Mouse via Bluetooth.
You may have a wireless mouse with Bluetooth connectivity capabilities. If that’s the case, in order to get this type of wireless mouse to work, you will need to pair the mouse with your computer. The methods are slightly different between Windows and Mac, so we’ll run through both.
Pairing Your Wireless Mouse on a Windows.
Begin by opening the Start Menu at the bottom left corner of your Windows taskbar. From the Start Menu, go to Settings, and then click Devices. On the Devices screen, you should see the option to Add Bluetooth or another device. Once you click it, you should be presented with a list of all Bluetooth-enabled devices available.
Now, go back to your wireless mouse and make sure the power is turned on. Alongside the power button on the bottom of your mouse, there should be a Connect button (as mentioned above). Some Logitech mouse devices have a Channel button, which lets you decide what Bluetooth channel to use when you pair your device. If your mouse doesn’t have this, don’t worry about it, but if it does, just make sure you press the Channel button to select your channel before you hit Connect.
Once you hit Connect, your Logitech mouse should show up on the Bluetooth menu back on your computer screen. Once you see your device show up, click it, and your Logitech wireless mouse should now be listed as available in the Devices menu. Select it, and your mouse should now work.
Pairing your Wireless Mouse on a Mac.
Begin by clicking the Bluetooth icon at the top right corner of your Mac menu bar. This should give you the option to open Bluetooth Preferences. This will show you all the Bluetooth-enabled devices that are paired with your computer
Now, turn on your mouse, and press the Connect button on the bottom of your mouse. Follow the directions from above regarding the Channel button if your mouse has one, then go back to your computer. Once your wireless mouse is on, it should be discoverable by your Mac under the Bluetooth Preferences menu. Locate it’s name on the list, and click the Connect button (on your Mac this time) that is next to it's name.
When your wireless mouse is paired, it should say Connected next to it's name instead of giving an option to Connect. Now, try moving your mouse - it should be fully operational.
Troubleshooting your Wireless Mouse.
If you find that your wireless mouse is not working, there are a few questions to answer. First of all, is your mouse turned on and inside the 30 foot range of your USB receiver? If so, check to see if the receiver is securely plugged in. Maybe it's the USB port? Try an alternate USB port in case that could be the issue.
If it still doesn't work, there is a chance you may need a replacement receiver, in which case you will need to download the Logitech Connection Utility software for PC or SetPoint Logitech Mouse and Keyboard software for Mac to pair the new receiver with your current mouse. Both programs are fairly straightforward and require you to go through the install process following their directions.
Lastly, you should always double-check to make sure that the batteries are properly inserted in the right direction. It's a simple mistake, but all too easy to make.
