How to Deactivate the Proxy Server
One possible malware exploit in Windows 7 is through the proxy server. Your computer can become infected with malware that changes your browser settings and runs through the proxy server in Internet Explorer. However, you can deactivate the proxy server in your Internet Options in Internet Explorer. When you deactivate the proxy server, you disable the malware’s access to your browser’s proxy server.

Open Internet Explorer and then click on the “Gear” icon in the upper right corner. A drop-down list opens.

Click the “Internet Options” entry. The Internet Options dialog box opens.

Click the “Connections” tab.

Click the “LAN Settings” button.

Uncheck the check box in front of the “Use a proxy server for your LAN” option.

Click the “OK” button. The proxy server for Internet Explorer is deactivated.
