How to Create a Hyperlink in Excel Back to a Page in Microsoft Word
If you have a Microsoft Office Excel 2010 spreadsheet, you can easily create a hyperlink to a Word document and place it anywhere in the spreadsheet. However, clicking the hyperlink opens the Word document at the first page. To be able to create a hyperlink to a specific page within a Word 2010 document, you must use a trick involving Word bookmarks.
-
1.
Launch Microsoft Office Word 2010 on your computer and open the Word document you want to link to.
-
2.
Scroll down until you find the specific page you want to link to.
-
3.
Click anywhere in the first line of the page to place the insertion cursor in that point. It is irrelevant where exactly you place the insertion cursor, as long as you place it in the first line.
-
4.
Click "Insert" at the top of the Word window.
-
5.
Click "Bookmark" in the Groups section at the top. The Bookmark window pops up.
-
6.
Type a name for your new bookmark in the Bookmark Name box, such as, for example ,"target1".
-
7.
Place a check mark in front of the Hidden Bookmarks option at the bottom of the Bookmark window to create a hidden bookmark.
-
8.
Click "Add" to add the bookmark and press "Ctrl-S" to save the Word document.
-
9.
Close Microsoft Word and launch Microsoft Office Excel 2010.
-
10.
Open a workbook and select the spreadsheet you want to link from.
-
11.
Click on one of the cells and click "Insert" at the top of the Excel 2010 window.
-
12.
Click "Hyperlink" in the Links section at the top. The Insert Hyperlink window pops up.
-
13.
Type the text you want to click on to open the Word page in the Text to Display box at the top of the Insert Hyperlink window.
-
14.
Use the built-in file browser to select the Word document you saved earlier. Its URL is displayed in the Address box at the bottom of the window.
-
15.
Place the cursor at the end of the URL and append "#bookmark", where "bookmark" is the name you used when you created the Word bookmark. For example, the Address might look like this: C:\Temp\Test.doc#target1.
-
16.
Click "OK" to insert the hyperlink in the Excel spreadsheet.
-
17.
Click the link to test it. It will open the Word page to which you added the bookmark.
