How to Adjust D-Link Frequency
Changing the wireless frequency used by your D-Link broadband wireless router can sometimes correct connectivity problems and signal drop-out issues caused by interference from nearby wireless networks. In the United States, wireless routers usually operate on Channels 1, 6 or 11, but you can choose any of the 11 available channels. With the D-Link router, select the channel frequency manually or use the device’s automatic channel scan feature to find and set the optimal wireless channel for your location.
-
1.
Launch the Web browser on any computer that uses the D-Link router to connect to the Internet, either wirelessly or via an Ethernet cable connection.
-
2.
Type “192.168.1.1” or "192.168.0.1" into the browser’s address bar to go to the D-Link router’s administrative settings page. Enter your user name and password into the applicable input boxes. If you haven’t set a custom security username and password for the router, enter the default login information, which is “admin” for both the username and password.
-
3.
Click the “Setup” tab in the navigation menu at the top of the screen. Select “Wireless Settings” from the menu on the left.
-
4.
Click the “Enable Auto Scan” check box in the main window, then click “Apply Settings.” The D-Link router automatically scans all channels and selects the optimal channel. Alternatively, set the channel manually. Click the down-arrow button beside “Wireless Channel.” Select your preferred channel, from channel 1 to channel 11, from the pull-down menu. Click “Apply Settings” to save and implement the changes.

Tips
- After changing the wireless frequency on your D-Link router, restart all laptop computers, games consoles and mobile devices that use the wireless connection. The devices will automatically find the new channel, but you may need to enter the network security password again to connect to the Internet.
